In this course we start at chapter 16 of the book Marugoto A1. The pace in this group is quite high. Marugoto is a pleasant coursebook with a lot of online material, colour photographs, film clips, and so on. In this course you are supposed to be familiar with both the hiragana and the katakana characters. Kanji characters are introduced on a small scale in these lessons, woven into the lesson material. During this course a lot of attention will be paid to speaking (in the form of Can-Do exercises) and to listening to Japanese.

Pronouncing Japanese the right way is not the most difficult part of the language but we shall focus on listening to get the emphasis and intonation right and to get used to the speed of the spoken language. All MP3s have been recorded by native speakers.

In this course we continue where we left off in Japanese 4A. In this group we set aside ample time for repetition and exercises. We still use the Marugoto book, from chapter 15 onwards. In this book the focus is on listening and speaking, extending vocabulary and the use of Japanese in practical situations. The coursebook was developed by the Japan Foundation and is supported by digital material, with online tools and audio files.

All texts are available in both hiragana and katakana and romaji. Marugoto also introduces kanji in these texts in a playful way. It is a complete and challenging course! And it focuses on cultural aspects too.

Do you intend to travel to Japan at short notice? If so, this course is the one for you. In six lessons our teacher will not only teach you some basic Japanese so that you can order something in a restaurant, buy something in a shop, or ask the way, but she will also give you tips to enable you to get the most out of your trip. She will tell you about beautiful, relatively unknown places and will explain things about the public transport system in Japan, the accommodation possibilities (such as the homely minshuku (B&Bs), beautifully located onsen (hot springs), and hotels and ryokan (Japanese-style hotels). And, of course, about delicious Japanese cuisine.

This course is offered a number of times per year.

This group is certainly no longer a beginners group. We already know about 200 kanjis and some advanced grammar. In this course the polite form of Japanese (keigo) is studied. This will help you in both formal and informal situations. We have already worked our way through Genki 1 and 2 and will start on chapter 3 in Japanese for Busy People III. The teacher will also provide you with a lot of extra reading and exercise material.
